[GUELPH, ON, March 27, 2024–] – Guelph’s 10 Shelldale permanent supportive housing project received operational funding as part of yesterday’s provincial budget, released March 26, 2024.
The investment — $9 million over three years – will provide operational funding from the Ministry of Health to provide supportive housing and comprehensive mental health and addictions wraparound health care services to 32 new clients and also increase service levels for 76 high needs supportive housing residents in the Guelph-Wellington area.
“We are so grateful for this funding from the Provincial government, through the Ministry of Health, which will make a meaningful difference in the Guelph community,” says Kristin Kerr, CEO, Stonehenge Therapeutic Community (STC). I am equally grateful for the many advocates and partners who helped make this project successful.”
10 Shelldale, located at 10 Shelldale Crescent in Guelph, contains 32 single-occupancy units, and will have 24/7 on-site support for tenants. The building is the product of a partnership between Kindle Communities, the Guelph Community Health Centre (Guelph CHC) and STC.
“This funding is the last critical piece of the puzzle to making this innovative project successful,” says Melissa Kwiatkowski, CEO, Guelph CHC. “I am grateful for the support and recognition of the government, and particularly Minister Jones, for recognizing the importance of this project and making this investment in our community.”
Construction on the building is in its final stage of completion, and hiring for the 24/7 staffing has already begun. Partners are working aggressively to open the building in June 2024.
“It has been an honour and an inspiration to work with so many generous and courageous leaders on this project,” says Daria Allan-Ebron, CEO of Kindle Communities. “I cannot express the extent of my gratitude and thanks to everyone who has helped make this project a success.”
