[GUELPH, ON, October 29, 2024] – Community members, clients, staff and volunteers gathered at Guelph CHC for an unveiling of new artwork by local artist Maria Pezzano. The artwork – titled “PEACE, HOPE AND RESPECT” – replaces a memorial by the same artist that was destroyed during recent renovations at Guelph CHC.
The original memorial was commissioned on a wall on Guelph CHC’s second floor by Nancy and Jerry Mykitschak in memory of their son, Nicholas. Their son, Alex, was also in attendance.
“This piece serves as an artful apology for a mistake made by Guelph Community Health Centre. It is a poignant reminder that while we may stumble, we also have the capacity to rise, learn, and mend what has been broken,” says Kate Vsetula, Director of Community Programs and Development at Guelph CHC. “In a world filled with turmoil and uncertainty, let this painting stand as a powerful testament to our journey of reflection, understanding, and growth.”
“The original piece was a beautiful and meaningful tribute to Nicholas, and we are so grateful for this partnership and creative spirit that has facilitated another piece of original artwork for the enjoyment of the Guelph CHC community,” says Chris Merchant, Chair of Guelph CHC.
The unveiling took place at a social gathering hosted by members of Guelph CHC’s board of directors and client advisory members as a final highlight of Community Health and Wellbeing Month.
