Childbirth Preparation Classes

We offer support and information on childbirth to people who cannot attend regular childbirth preparation classes because of considerations such as:

• language
• age
• trauma
• physical or emotional challenges

Our classes offer pregnant women and those who plan to support them during childbirth a condensed prenatal education. Please note that each woman's eligibility to participate in our classes is assessed individually by our perinatal educator.

Information on childbirth preparation is offered in two sessions:

The first session focuses on labour and delivery:

• what happens during labour
• comfort measures in labour
• possible interventions
• birth and recovery

The second session focuses on getting to know and care for a newborn:

• labour and birth review
• what a newborn looks like
• safe care for a newborn
• breastfeeding

Cultural interpretation services are available on request.

Classes are held downtown at 176 Wyndham Street North.
