Community Programs

We respond to health service needs as they emerge in our community and work with other community agencies to create opportunities for people to improve their health and well-being.

Our programs include:

  • Childbirth Preparation Classes - support and information on childbirth for pregnant women and for those who plan to support women during childbirth.
  • Cultural Interpretation - over 80 trained interpreters help our clients communicate with health care providers and community health workers.
  • Fitness Fridays - an exercise group for adults who want to move towards better health through physical activity.
  • Garden Fresh Box - a non-profit, fresh produce buying service created to help people access fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Growing and Parenting Program - an opportunity for young mothers to learn about parenting issues and themselves. A program for children age six or younger is included.
  • Guelph Wellington Local Food Initiative - a program that highlights the best of local food opportunities in Guelph and Wellington County. This program creates the Guelph Wellington Local Food Map and coordinates several Local Food events throughout the year.
  • Healthy Child Screening - a partnership with other health agencies in Guelph to offer young children efficient, coordinated health care at our health centre.
  • Helping Hands - a fun and busy multicultural women's group which provides women with an opportunity to participate in sewing projects, crafts and cooking. A stimulating children's program is offered at the same time.
  • Identification Clinics - help for our clients who are applying for identification papers including birth certificates, social insurance numbers and health cards.
  • in motion Mondays - a physical activity program for adults who want to get some exercise, enjoy fun physical activity and meet new people in their community.
  • Little Chefs - an opportunity for families to join together with other families to cook and be physically active.
  • Postpartum Depression Support Services - postpartum depression counselling and group support services for women and their families.
  • Prenatal and Postnatal Exercise Classes - exercise programs to provide pregnant women and new mothers the opportunity to be physically active.
  • Running Shoe Recycle Program - provides high quality, gently used running shoes to people who need a good pair of running shoes to support their efforts to be physically active.
  • Take Charge  - a six-week workshop created to teach people the skills needed to manage the challenges of living with a chronic health condition.
  • WE (Women Everywhere) Breastfeed – a peer support program for new mothers who are breastfeeding.
  • Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph in motion - a community partnership working to improve the health of our region by encouraging 30 minutes of daily physical activity for all residents.
  • Shelldale Women's Yoga - a drop-in program for women of all ages. This program is open to women who live in the Onward Willow Neighbourhood as well as women in the Teenage Parents Program and the Canadian Prenatal Nutrition Program.
  • Brant Women's Yoga - The Brant Women's Yoga Program is a drop-in program for women of all ages. This program is open to women who live in the Brant Avenue Neighbourhood Group and/or women who have barriers to accessing physical activity programs.

We are committed to working with and meeting the needs of families with young children as well as people who may find it hard to access health care. We are particularly focused on assisting people who are new to Canada or who face challenges such as low income, unemployment, isolation, homelessness and physical or mental disabilities.

Our programs and services are made available through funding received from the provincial government and our community partnerships as well as through donations directed to our health centre.
