Come explore what local agriculture is all about!

Join us for the 4th annual Guelph Wellington Local Food Fest.

Sunday June 7th, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm located at the beautiful grounds of
Ignatius Farm, 5420 Hwy 6, just north of Guelph

Ongoing activities include:

  • A colourful Farmers' Market and Exhibitor area with over 30 vendors.
  • A dynamic children's area with many activities including many hands on workshops and a scavenger hunt that will give kids a hands on tour of Ignatius Farm.
  • Wagon Rides, Guided Farm Tours and more...

Workshops  -  Come and talk with experts about a variety of topics.  Each workshop runs for 1/2 hour and will be site specific.

11:00 am - Urban Agriculture with Shannon Lee Sitrling, Project Coordinator of Backyard Bounty.  Come explore what Urban Agriculture is blooming into in the Guelph Area.  Shannon has extensive knowledge in urban farming and is happy to share it with you.

11:30 am and 3:30 pm  -  Community Supported Agriculture Tour,  Farm Staff at Ignatius.  Community Supported Agriculture is a strategy to connect farms with consumers.  When involved with a CSA you buy a share in the farm and receive a basket of food each week of the growing season.  If you would like more information about CSA's come out to this workshop and get a tour of the Community Supported Agriculture fields at Ignatius Farm.  Ask questions about what a CSA is all about and see a wonderful model working in action.

12:00 - 12:30 - Conversation Cafe about Local Food.  Shannon Lee Stirling from Warmer Theatre and the Guelph Food Round Table invites you to a discussion about local food issues.  This is a chance for your to discuss what local food means to you and to find out what it means to others.  Bring a lunch or something to share.

12:30 pm  -  Old Growth Forest Project with Heather Kepran, Project Coordinator, Plant and Old Growth Forest Project.  Join Heather for a guided walk an discussion of Ignatius's plans to restore the Marden Creek as part of the Plant an Old Growth Forest Project.

1:00 pm  -  A tour of the Apple Orchard and Ignatius Farm, with Lorne Jamieson, Ignatius Farm Manager.  Learn the history of the Ignatius Orchard and what apple growing is all about.

2:00 pm  -  Sprouting for Life with Mireille Martinez, owner of Sprouting Life.  Learn how to grow you own sprouts.  Find out all you need to know on how to do jar sprouting including detailed instructions, where to buy supplies and troubleshooting.

2:00 pm  -  Cooking Demonstrations with the Community Food Advisors.  Come and learn the wonders of cooking with local food.  The Community Food Advisors will be showcasing their cooking demonstration at their exhibitor table.

3:00 pm  -  Bee Keeping with Allison Van Alten, Tech-Transfer Specialist, Ontario Beekeepers Association.  This workshop will involve an introduction to a local bee year and the basics of a bee colony.  The value of honey bees as pollinators and the ongoing problem with honey bee health will be discussed.

11:30  -  James Gordon
Guelph's Troubadour that is well known internationally for his fine folk music will be putting a smile on your face with some of his great music.  www.Jamesgordon.ca

12:30 pm  -  Good Lovelies
Hailing from Toronto and armed with a pile of instruments, a repertoire of sassy and sophisticated songs and an effervescent sense of humour the Good Lovelies never fail to charm even the toughest audiences.  www.goodlovelies.com

1:30 pm  -  Jason Sheffield -  Jason is a local singer/songwriter from Eden Mills with a passion for acoustic music and vocal harmony, who loves to improvise.  He has been expanding his repertoire of original songs since he began teaching himself guitar in high school.  Folk, Rock, Bluegrass, and Blues have made an impact on Jason, which is evident in his music.  He has played since the late '80's  as a solo act, in duos, and in a variety of bands, including a stint in an Ohio-based bluegrass band.  He is equally at ease performing at festivals, clubs, and even campfires.  Jason is currently working on his long-overdue CD, and is always up for a jam.

2:30 pm  -  Swell Billies - Local acoustic/bluegrass band the Swell Billies (A.K.A. the Swill Billies, Hill Billies, Thrill Billies) have been creating homegrown, old time music for over ten years.  The boys have been found jamming in kitchens, back yards, parking lots, festivals and pretty much anywhere else and anytime that good food, drink, friends and listeners can be found.

3:30 pm  -  The Funky Mamas
Guelph's Favourite Family band is happy to be spreading good cheer, memorable songs and zest for life at this year's Local Food Fest.  This 5 member band will have you singing and dancing along.  www.thefunkymamas.com
