The Guelph Community Health Centre is pleased to be able to offer support to Syrian Refugees and those working to bring them to our community. Sponsoring groups are invited to consider the Guelph Community Health Centre to help support the sponsored families’ or individuals’ health needs.
At the Guelph CHC, we are currently accepting new clients from our priority populations, including refugees and newcomers to Canada. We offer teams of Family Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, social workers, dietitians, and health navigation staff with experience supporting newcomers to Canada. Our Clinical Team works closely with our Allied Health staff to deliver a wraparound care model for each of our clients.
Staff are trained to assist individuals with the unique health and well being concerns that may arise in refugee populations, including the experience of trauma, as well as treatment and stabilization of their health issues. Where needed, we also provide access to trained interpreters who can assist in overcoming language barriers during appointments, a crucial element to accessing barrier-free health care that newcomers deserve.
In addition, we work with many community partners including Immigrant Services, the Legal Clinic and agencies in the Shelldale Centre to help clients access additional resources they may need to ensure their health and well being.
Once you have more information about the family/ individuals who will be arriving in Guelph, we suggest that you contact our Intake Coordinator at 519-821-6638, ext 404 to initiate an intake file. If you have questions about our services, please contact Anne Phillips, Clinic Services Manager at ext 308.
